F-Secure Cracking Down on Malicious Content in the Cloud
According to Mika Ståhlberg, Chief Technology Officer, F-Secure, it's a trend that will improve security for many businesses, but with one caveat. "Security is a shared responsibility between cloud service providers and users in these ecosystems. Businesses using cloud services are responsible for the content they and their customers exchange through the service, and solutions that help secure the content are going to be a big part of securing the cloud. Salesforce enables security providers such as F-Secure to check and secure links and files to empower this holistic security approach."
F-Secure co-founds cyber security ethics alliance
"Right now everyone's struggling to secure digital assets," said Sean Sullivan, Security Advisor, F-Secure. "Doing nothing is not an option given the capabilities of today's attackers, but at the same time, being too heavy handed harms innocent people and companies looking to make the most out of new technology. Governments, companies, and the public are coming to the European cyber security industry with questions about how to make security both effective and practical for their needs, and CANVAS is going to help us get answers to the people that need them."
F-Secure, University of Helsinki launch Cyber Security Base
Given the increasing capabilities of today's attackers combined with the widespread digitalization of many aspects of life, this shortage puts people and companies all over the world at risk. "Many of us in the industry see cyber security as a kind of race between attackers and defenders," said Samu Konttinen, CEO, F-Secure. "Right now, defenders are doing a better job in protecting systems than ever before. But threats have never been more advanced or numerous than they are today, so it's in everyone's interest to prioritize training and recruiting the best possible cyber security specialists."
Newfound Router Flaw Lets Hackers Control Home Internet Connections
The vulnerability allows an attacker to install their own firmware to the device, which would still work as before, but with back doors and other unwanted features. An attacker exploiting the flaw would be able to listen in on unencrypted traffic going through the router, not just device-to-internet, but device-to-device inside the home; as well as manipulate the victim's browsing sessions by redirecting to malicious sites.
F-Secure Links Advanced Malware Threat to South China Sea Cyber Attacks
"This APT (advanced persistent threat) malware appears to be tightly linked to the dispute and legal proceedings between the Philippines and China about the South China Sea," says Erka Koivunen, Cyber Security Advisor at F-Secure. "Not only are the targeted organizations all related to the case in some way, but its appearance coincides chronologically with the publication of news or events related to the arbitration proceedings."

The managed service combines the best of human and machine intelligence with a promise to notify companies within just 30 minutes of a breach detection.
F-Secure Offers Free Privacy and Security App to Journalists
"Free speech is something nurtured by some governments, but many see it as a threat when mobilized in an institution like the media," says F-Secure Cyber Security Advisor Erka Koivunen. "And even though technology has given governments unprecedented surveillance capabilities, it's also given people ways to protect themselves. Encryption is probably the best tool available to journalists if they want to conduct investigatory work without suffering reprisals from oppressive governments and institutions."
F-Secure and Europol Join Forces to Fight Cyber Crime
Kimmo Kasslin, Head of F-Secure Labs, said: "Our mission is to protect people and business from cyber threats, and cooperation with law enforcement is an important part of that mission. We are glad to be able to provide threat intelligence to Europol to aid in their investigation and enforcement efforts to make the online world a safer place for everyone."
Investigation Finds Thousands of Exploitable Weaknesses in Company Networks
"It's bad news for a company if an attacker finds one of these highly severe vulnerabilities," said Jarno Niemelä, Lead Researcher, F-Secure Labs. "The fact that we found thousands of issues this severe suggests some serious security shortfalls amongst companies. Either they're not implementing patch management programs, or they're forgetting to include parts of their network in their maintenance practices. But no matter what the underlying cause is, it's lots of opportunities for attackers, and lots of breaches waiting to happen."
